What is Hoechst 33342?

Bisbenzimide, also known as Hoechst 33342, is a commonly used reagent in cytogenetics research. It fluorescently stains the DNA of cells, inserts into the A-T region of DNA, has low cytotoxicity, and forms membrane-permeable fluorescent DNA chains. Hoechst 33342 is mainly used for DNA staining and blue fluorescent staining. It has low toxicity and is therefore widely used.
