Physical properties: o-Chlorobenzoyl chloride is a yellow liquid with a melting point of -4℃~-3℃, a boiling point of 238℃, a density of 1.382, a refractive index of 1.5708~1.5728, and a flash point of 110℃.

Solubility: It is soluble in alcohol, ether, and acetone, but insoluble in water.

Stability: o-Chlorobenzoyl chloride will decompose when it comes into contact with water.

Application

Pharmaceutical and dye intermediates: o-Chlorobenzoyl chloride is an important intermediate for pharmaceuticals and dyes, and is used in the production of general anesthetics such as ketamine hydrochloride, non-narcotic antitussives such as dichlorvos, etc.

Pesticide intermediates: In the field of pesticides, o-Chlorobenzoyl chloride is mainly used as an intermediate for clotrimazole, etc., as well as in the preparation of o-chlorobenzoic acid and the production of trichloroacaricides.

Organic synthesis intermediate: o-chlorobenzoyl chloride is also an intermediate of benzoylurea insecticides chloranil and chloranil, as well as an intermediate of miticide clofenac and fungicide flufenicol.

Production method

Originated by the reaction of o-chlorobenzoic acid and thionyl chloride: o-chlorobenzoic acid and thionyl chloride are stirred, heated and dissolved, and the temperature is raised to reflux for 0.5h. Then the excess chloranil is evaporated, and then atmospheric distillation is performed, and the 220-230℃ fraction is collected to obtain the crude product, and finally the finished product is obtained by reduced pressure distillation. The yield is 85%-90%.
