What is Diethylene Glycol?

Diethylene Glycol is a colorless and transparent liquid, referred to as DEG. It is hygroscopic, odorless, and has a spicy sweet taste. It is a polyol. The chemical formula of DEG is C₄H₁₀O₃, and the molecular weight is 106.12. The density at 25°C is 1.118 g/ml (literature value), the melting point is -10°C (literature value), and the boiling point is 245°C (literature value). The flash point is 143°C, it is soluble in water, the vapor pressure at 20°C is 0.01 mmHg, and the vapor density is 2.14 relative to air.

In some places where humidity needs to be controlled, such as electronic equipment production workshops and laboratories, diethylene glycol can be used as a desiccant to prevent equipment and products from being damaged by excessive humidity.
• Cosmetics: It often used as a moisturizer and solvent, it can help maintain skin moisture and make cosmetics have good spreadability and stability.
• Brake fluid: DEG is one of the important components of brake fluid. It can increase the boiling point and low-temperature fluidity of brake fluid, ensuring the reliable operation of the brake system under different environmental conditions.
