What is o-Xylene Solvent CAS 95-47-6 ?

O-Xylene, also known as 1,2-dimethylbenzene, has the chemical formula C8H10. It is an organic compound and one of the three common isomers of xylene. It is a colorless, transparent liquid with an aromatic odor, miscible with ethanol, diethyl ether, acetone, and benzene, and insoluble in water. O-Xylene has a melting point of -25.2°C, boiling point of 144.4°C, and density of 0.8802 g/cm³ (20°C), making it slightly lighter than water. It is insoluble in water (0.52 g/L) with a flash point of 16°C (closed cup) and saturated vapor pressure of 1.33 kPa (25°C). Highly volatile, it forms explosive mixtures with air.

• O-Xylene is mainly used to produce phthalic anhydride, which is an important raw material for making plasticizers, polyester resins, coatings, etc.
• It can be used as a solvent in coatings, inks, rubber and other industries to dissolve resins, pigments and other ingredients.
• It is an intermediate in organic synthesis and is used to produce fine chemicals such as dyes, fragrances, and medicines.
• It can also be used as a gasoline additive to improve the combustion performance and octane number of gasoline.
