What is 4-(Methylthio)phenol?
4-(Methylthio)phenol contains a sulfur atom and a methoxy group (methyl group connected to oxygen atom) in its chemical structure. It is a white powder with a special pungent smell. It is soluble in organic solvents such as alcohols, ethers and aromatic hydrocarbons and is almost insoluble in water. Methylthiophenol is easily oxidized by oxygen and turns yellow when exposed to air for a long time.
