Uses

• In nylon production, cyclohexanone serves as a key intermediate for manufacturing nylon 6 and nylon 66: oxidation yields adipic acid (a precursor for nylon 66), while oximation followed by the Beckmann rearrangement produces caprolactam (a precursor for nylon 6). Approximately 70% of global caprolactam is derived from cyclohexanone.
• As high-boiling solvents, cyclohexanone is used in paints and coatings to dissolve materials like nitrocellulose and vinyl chloride polymers, in pesticides as a solvent for organophosphorus insecticides, as a degreasing agent for rubber/fats/waxes, and in cosmetics (e.g., nail polish) where it is blended with low-boiling solvents to adjust evaporation rates.
