What is epsilon-Caprolactam CAS 105-60-2 ?

Epsilon-Caprolactam is a colorless to slightly yellow crystalline or flaky solid with a slight amine odor. Its chemical formula is C₆H₁₁NO and its relative molecular mass is 113.16. Its melting point is about 68°C, its boiling point is about 267°C (decomposition), its density is 1.01 g/cm³ (25°C), it has a certain solubility in water, and it is miscible with organic solvents such as alcohols and ketones. Caprolactam is prone to ring-opening polymerization under the action of heat and acid and alkali, and is a key monomer for the synthesis of nylon 6 (polycaprolactam). The compound is chemically stable, but it may decompose when exposed to high temperatures or strong oxidants.

• Textile industry: ε-Caprolactam is made into nylon 6 fiber, which is used to produce fabric materials such as clothing, carpets, and ropes.
• Coatings and films: It is used to manufacture nylon resin-based coatings, food packaging films, etc., and has good mechanical and barrier properties.
