Uses

As a representative vinyl Grignard reagent, Vinylmagnesium Bromide serves as a key nucleophilic reagent in organic synthesis. It reacts with aldehydes, ketones, esters, and epoxides to introduce vinyl groups, forming allyl alcohols or olefin derivatives. For instance, it reacts with aldehydes to produce β-hydroxyolefins, undergoes 1,4-addition with conjugated carbonyl compounds under cuprous salt catalysis, or couples with alkyl/aryl halides via palladium/nickel catalysis to synthesize aryl vinyl compounds.

Safety Information

It reacts violently with water or oxidants to release hydrogen (H260) that can self-ignite.
It is highly corrosive, causing skin burns and eye damage (H314), and is harmful if inhaled or ingested (H302/H332).
