What is Behentrimonium chloride?

Behentrimonium chloride, also known as Bihenyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, or BTAC for short, is an inorganic compound. It is a white to yellow solid that is soluble in water and organic solvents. It has a certain stability and chemical inertness. BTAC is widely used in organic synthesis reactions in chemical laboratories. It can be used as a catalyst, solvent or coordination reagent, etc. Its good solubility and chemical reactivity have important applications in the fields of organic synthesis and catalysis.

• Textile industry: Bihenyl trimethyl ammonium chloride is used as a fiber softening finishing agent and antistatic agent. It reduces friction between fibers through the adsorption of long-chain alkyl groups, giving fabrics a lasting soft feel and inhibiting static electricity accumulation.
• Water treatment and sterilization: As a cationic flocculant, it can neutralize the charge of colloidal particles in water to promote coagulation and precipitation; it also has certain bactericidal properties and is used to inhibit the reproduction of microorganisms in water.
• Papermaking and leather processing: In papermaking, BTAC is used as a retention aid to increase the retention rate of fine fibers and fillers and improve the uniformity of paper; in leather processing, it is used as a softener to enhance the softness and smooth texture of leather.
