What is Behentrimonium chloride?
Behentrimonium chloride is mostly white or light yellow solid at room temperature, with a melting point of about 80-100℃ (slightly different with purity), soluble in hot water, ethanol, chloroform and other solvents, with low solubility in cold water, and has certain hygroscopicity. As a cationic surfactant, the long-chain alkyl in its molecular structure gives lipophilicity, and the quaternary ammonium salt group gives hydrophilicity and cationicity. The aqueous solution can reduce the surface tension and show good emulsification, dispersion and adsorption properties; the chemical properties are relatively stable, acid-resistant but may be slowly hydrolyzed under strong alkaline conditions, and it is easy to generate precipitation when compounded with anionic surfactants. At the same time, it has certain antibacterial and antimicrobial activity. Its surface activity and cationic properties enable it to play a conditioning and softening role in various industrial fields.
