Ethylene Thiourea appears as a white crystalline powder with a density of 1.3±0.1 g/cm³. The compound has a melting point range of 196–200°C, a boiling point of 148.3±23.0°C at 760 mmHg, and a flash point of 43.5±22.6°C. Its refractive index is 1.626. Ethylene Thiourea exhibits limited solubility in water (19 g/L at 20°C) but dissolves readily in ethanol, ethylene glycol, and pyridine. It is insoluble in non-polar solvents such as ether, benzene, chloroform, and petroleum ether.

Ethylene Thiourea serves as an imidazoline-based vulcanization accelerator for various synthetic rubbers, including chloroprene, chlorohydrin, chlorosulfonated polyethylene, and polyacrylate rubbers. It is particularly valued as a safety accelerator in non-vulcanizing systems for chloroprene rubber, typically used in combination with zinc oxide and magnesium oxide. Common applications include industrial rubber products.
Electroplating Sector
It functions as a copper plating brightener, often used synergistically with additives like copper plating brightener M to enhance surface quality and uniformity.
Other Uses
The compound acts as an intermediate in fine chemical synthesis, contributing to the production of antioxidants, pesticides, fungicides, dyes, pharmaceuticals, and synthetic resins.
