Tetrahydrouridine is a specific competitive inhibitor of cytidine deaminase (CDA), which inhibits the deaminization catabolism of cytotoxic deoxycytidine analogs (such as gemcitabine, ara-C) by blocking the active sites of the enzyme, thereby enhancing the anti-tumor effect of these drugs.
