Bismaleimide (BMI) appears as a light yellow powder or crystals with a melting point of 150–160°C. It has a density of 1.43 g/cm³, a boiling point of approximately 490.79°C, a flash point of 278.3°C, and a refractive index of 1.68. Solubility-wise, it dissolves in dimethylformamide, dimethylacetamide, and dimethyl sulfoxide, partially dissolves in acetone, dichloroethane, and cresol, and is insoluble in water.

Bismaleimide (BMI) is used in the preparation of electrical insulation materials, wear-resistant materials, reinforced plastic additives, and grinding wheel adhesives.
As a bismaleimide resin matrix, it finds extensive applications in industries such as electricity, aviation, aerospace, computers, communications, automobiles, railways, and construction.
Additionally, it functions as an excellent modifier for various polymer materials and advanced rubbers, as well as a crosslinking agent, coupling agent, and curing agent for other polymeric compounds.
