What is Cyclohexyltrimethoxysilane?

Cyclohexyltrimethoxysilane (CAS: 17865-54-2) is an organosilane coupling agent with the chemical formula C₆H₁₁Si(OCH₃)₃. It is usually a colorless, transparent liquid with a purity of ≥97%. It has a molecular weight of 220.34 g/mol, a boiling point of about 220–230°C, a density between 1.0–1.05 g/cm³, and is a flammable liquid with a flash point of about 90°C. In terms of solubility, it is soluble in alcohols (such as methanol, ethanol), ethers, and most organic solvents, but insoluble in water. It will slowly hydrolyze in a humid environment or in water to generate silanol (Si-OH), which may further condense to form Si-O-Si bonds. Its methoxy group (-OCH₃) is reactive and can react with materials containing hydroxyl (-OH) or carboxyl (-COOH), thereby improving the bonding performance of the organic-inorganic interface. The compound is relatively stable to heat and chemical environments, but hydrolysis is accelerated under strong acid or base conditions.

1. As an organosilicon reagent, Cyclohexyltrimethoxysilane is used in silicification reactions in organic synthesis.
2. As a component of surfactants, it can be used to modify polymers, coatings, and inks.
3. As a mold release agent, it is used to separate silicone products from silicone molds.
