What are the different grades of ace/acetone?

  • Technical Grade – Technical grade acetone contains the highest amount of organic contaminants. While this does not make it unusable, it is generally unsuitable for consumer products or personal care applications. Industrial acetone of this grade is mainly applied for cleaning, degreasing, and maintenance of metal equipment.
  • Reagent/ACS Grade – Reagent or ACS grade acetone is significantly purer than technical grade, with at least 95% free from impurities. This makes it suitable for a wider range of applications and chemical processes, though it still does not meet food-grade standards.
  • USP Grade – USP grade acetone is the highest purity available, with 99.9% of impurities removed. It is safe for use in medical and pharmaceutical applications. In addition, USP-grade acetone can meet food-grade requirements, making it usable as an indirect additive in food production or packaging processes.
