Triphenyl Phosphite (TPPi) is an important organophosphorus compound with a molecular formula of C18H15O3P, a molecular weight of 310.28, and a CAS number of 101-02-0. Industrial products with a purity of 97% are usually colorless to light yellow transparent liquids with a slight phenolic odor. The substance is poorly soluble in water (water solubility < 0.1 g/100 mL) and easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, and benzene. Chemically, the TPPi molecule contains a phosphorus-oxygen double bond (P=O) and a phenoxy group, which is easily hydrolyzed to form phenol and phosphorous acid. It may react violently when encountering strong acids or strong oxidants, so contact should be avoided.

Triphenyl Phosphite is used in many fields:
- Polymer material stabilizer: As an auxiliary antioxidant and stabilizer for plastics such as PVC, polyethylene, and polypropylene, TPPi can capture free radicals generated by polymer degradation, inhibit thermal oxidative aging, and improve processing performance. It is often used in products such as pipes, films, and artificial leather.
- Organic synthesis intermediate: used in the pesticide industry to synthesize organophosphorus insecticides (such as chlorpyrifos intermediates); participate in the phosphorylation reaction of drug molecules in the pharmaceutical field; as a Wittig reaction reagent, it is used in olefin synthesis (carbon-carbon double bond construction).
- Coatings and adhesives: Improve the weather resistance and flexibility of systems such as epoxy resins and polyurethanes, and reduce oxidative discoloration during the curing process.
- Catalyst carrier: TPPi is combined with metal salts to form a homogeneous catalyst, which is used for olefin polymerization, carbonylation reactions, etc.
Triphenyl Phosphite should be sealed and stored in a cool and dry place (temperature ≤ 30℃), away from direct sunlight and heat sources. It should be sealed and packaged in galvanized iron barrels or plastic barrels to prevent moisture absorption and hydrolysis.
