Uses
Salicyl Fluorone is often used as a fluorescent probe in the laboratory for the detection of metal ions (e.g., copper, nickel, iron, etc.) and organic molecules (e.g., amino acids, polyphenolic compounds, etc.). It can also be used to prepare other organic fluorescent dyes, fluorescent indicators and fluorescent labeling reagents, which are widely used in the fields of biomedicine, environmental monitoring, materials science and so on.
Salicyl Fluorone is a copper and molybdenum complex used as an antimicrobial agent. It works against bacteria that produce nitrites, like Enterobacteriaceae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Salicylfluorone stops bacteria from making certain enzymes by binding to them. We don't fully understand how it works, but we think it may form a hydrogen bond with the enzyme or bind to a drug target site on the enzyme or its substrate. It hasn't been tested in living organisms, but it shows promise for treating chronic inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
