Ferrous Chloride has a melting point of 677°C and a density of 3.16 g/mL. It is easily soluble in water, ethanol and acetone, slightly soluble in benzene, and insoluble in ether. Anhydrous ferrous chloride sublimates at about 700°C in a hydrogen chloride gas stream, and its tetrahydrate (FeCl₂・4H₂O) is a blue-green monoclinic crystal that is easily deliquescent.

Water treatment:

• Flocculant: Ferrous Chloride can combine with suspended matter in water to form flocs and reduce turbidity. It is often used in sewage treatment to remove heavy metal ions (such as chromium, copper, zinc) and organic pollutants.
• Decolorizer: In the treatment of printing and dyeing wastewater, its unique decolorization ability can effectively remove dyes and pigments.

Industrial production:

• Synthetic raw materials: used to produce chemicals such as ferric chloride and ferric hydroxide, or as an intermediate for flocculants such as polyaluminium ferric chloride.
• Metallurgical field: used as a reducing agent in the metal extraction process, or used for steel surface treatment.
