What is Kinetin?

Kinetin, also known as 6-Furfurylaminopurine, is a 6-aminopurine compound, in which the exocyclic amino group carries an adenine with a (furan-2-ylmethyl) substituent. It appears as a white powder and is soluble in water and some organic solvents. It is stable under acidic conditions, but decomposes under strong alkaline conditions. Kinetin can induce cell division, regulate the differentiation of isolated tissues, delay the degradation of proteins and chlorophyll, thereby delaying plant aging and making the plant epidermis flexible and shiny. In addition to promoting cell division, it can also delay the aging of isolated leaves and cut flowers, induce the differentiation and development of buds, and promote the opening of stomata.
