- As chemical raw materials, p-xylene produces terephthalic acid (PTA) and dimethyl terephthalate (DMT), further synthesizing polyethylene terephthalate (PET) for manufacturing polyester fibers, plastic bottles, and films.
- As solvents and additives, it serves as a solvent for rubber, paint, and ink while acting as an aviation gasoline additive to increase octane number.
- In other fields, p-xylene functions as intermediates for pharmaceuticals (e.g., vitamins), fragrances, dyes, standard chromatographic analysis substances, and calibration solutions for instruments like ICP-AES.
