What is Octanoic Acid/Caprylic Acid?
Caprylic acid is a medium chain fatty acid. It has eight carbons in its chain, so it's also called Octanoic Acid. Caprylic acid is considered an essential fatty acid and is essential for proper functioning of the human body. Lack of it can lead to memory or concentration problems. Octanoic acid is a colorless oily liquid, solidified into flake crystals after cooling, slightly uncomfortable odor and burnt, diluted to fruity aroma. Melting point 16.3℃, boiling point 240℃, refractive index (nD20)1.4278. Slightly soluble in cold water, soluble in hot water and most organic solvents such as ethanol and ether.

Application
- Food preservative: Octanoic Acid is a natural preservative (E296) used to extend the shelf life of baked goods and dairy products.
- Daily chemical raw materials: Adding Caprylic Acid to skin care products and soaps can adjust the pH value and provide antibacterial effects.
- Industrial synthesis: Caprylic is used to produce lubricants, plastic stabilizers and metal processing additives.
- Pharmaceutical pesticides: intermediates for synthesizing antifungal drugs, or as pesticide adjuvants to enhance drug efficacy.
- Energy field: Participate in the preparation of biodiesel and generate fuel components through esterification reactions.
