The molecular weight is 124.137 and the molecular formula is C₇H₈O₂. It is easily soluble in alcohol, insoluble in water, and stable to water, weak acid, and weak base solutions. It is a resin made by condensation of phenol and formaldehyde under catalyst conditions, neutralization, and water washing.

- Adhesive: Phenol Formaldehyde Resin has good bonding properties and can firmly bond a variety of materials such as wood, paper, leather, and metal. It is often used in the manufacture of plywood, fiberboard, grinding wheels, etc.
- Composite materials: As the matrix resin of composite materials, combined with reinforcing materials such as glass fiber and carbon fiber, it can be made into high-performance composite materials for use in aerospace, automotive industry, sports goods and other fields.
- Friction material: This substance can be mixed with friction performance regulators, reinforcing materials, etc. to make friction materials such as automobile brake pads, clutch facings, and train brake shoes.
