Applications of Methyl Formate Solvent
- Methyl formate is a key intermediate in carbon monochemistry. It can be hydrolyzed to produce formic acid and methanol, and can also undergo ammonolysis to prepare chemical products such as formamide and dimethylformamide (DMF).
- As an excellent solvent for cellulose acetate and cellulose nitrate, methyl formate is widely used in the coatings and ink industries. It can also be used as a fumigant for tobacco, cereals, and dried fruits, offering both bactericidal and insecticidal effects.
- In the pesticide field, it serves as a solvent for carbendazim and is used in the formulation of insecticides and fungicides.
- Methyl formate is also an important raw material in the synthesis of certain pharmaceuticals. In addition, its aromatic properties make it useful in the fragrance industry for formulating ether-like flavors.
