What is Ethylene glycol?
Ethylene Glycol, also known as glycol, or EG for short, is the simplest diol. Its CAS number is 107-21-1, its chemical formula is C₂H₆O₂, and its molecular weight is 62.07. It is a colorless, transparent, viscous liquid with a sweet taste and hygroscopicity. The melting point is at risk of combustion and explosion when exposed to open flames, high heat, or contact with oxidants. If exposed to high heat, the pressure inside the container increases, and there is a risk of cracking and explosion.

Uses
- Ethylene Glycol can be used as pesticide intermediates and pharmaceutical intermediates, and is an intermediate of fungicides pentamethylenetetracycline and benomyl. It is also a raw material for chemical products such as synthetic brake fluids; leather fiber dyes, etc.
- Adding EG to hydraulic fluids can prevent oil-based hydraulic fluids from corroding rubber in the system; water-based hydraulic fluids with EG as the main component are non-flammable hydraulic fluids used in aircraft, automobiles and high-temperature molding machines.
- EG can be used as a textile auxiliary, synthetic liquid dyes, and raw materials for desulfurization agents in fertilizer and oil refining production.
- EG can also be used as analytical reagents, chromatographic analysis reagents and capacitor media.
