Pesticides: CIS-1,3-DICHLOROPROPENE is used as a soil fumigant for the control of nematodes and pests
Organic synthesis: used as intermediates for the synthesis of pharmaceutical or pesticides (such as herbicides) (Note: trans isomers are more commonly used for herbicides and pharmaceutical intermediates)
Method of Preparation:
- cis-1,3-Dichloropropene can be prepared by the chlorination of propylene.
- The reaction is usually carried out in the presence of sulfoxide chloride (SO2Cl2) under suitable reaction conditions, such as heating in the presence of a catalyst.
