DEA is used as a thickener and foam modifier in shampoos and light detergents, as an intermediate in the organic synthesis industry, and as a solvent in the industry.
It has a wide range of uses in the washing industry, cosmetics industry, agriculture, construction industry and metal industry.

- Diethanolamine is an important corrosion inhibitor used in boiler water treatment, automotive engine coolant, drilling and cutting oils, and various other lubricants.
- It is also used in natural gas as an absorber for purifying acidic gases.
