Dimethylacetamide (DMAc) is a synthetic organic compound produced by the reaction of dimethylamine with acetic acid or acetic anhydride. It appears as a colorless to yellow liquid with a faint ammonia-like odor.
DMAC has a density similar to water and is fully miscible with both water and many organic solvents. It is widely used in industrial applications either as a starting material or as an intermediate.
As a strong polar solvent, DMAC is commonly used for polymer dissolution, especially in the fiber industry.

DMAC Solvent Uses
- Used as a raw material for synthetic fibers and an excellent polar solvent for organic synthesis. It is used in organic synthesis and also serves as a solvent, catalyst, and paint remover.
- N,N-Dimethylacetamide (DMAC) is mainly used as a solvent in the spinning of synthetic fibers (such as acrylonitrile) and polyurethane, as well as in the synthesis of polyamide resins. It is also used as an extractive distillation solvent for separating styrene from C8 fractions.
- It is widely applied in polymer films, coatings, and the pharmaceutical industry. At present, it is also widely used in medicine and pesticides for the synthesis of antimicrobial agents and pesticide insecticides.
- In addition, it can be used as a reaction catalyst, electrolytic solvent, paint remover, and to form various crystalline solvent adducts and complexes.
- Dimethylacetamide (DMAc) is also used as a solvent in synthetic fiber spinning and synthetic resin production, as a solvent for photosensitive chemical colorants, and as a solvent in coating applications.
