What is 9-Anthraldehyde?

9-Anthraldehyde is an organic compound. Its molecular formula is C₁₅H₁₀O, its molecular weight is 206.24, and its appearance is golden powder. It is soluble in organic solvents such as ether, acetone and methanol, but insoluble in water. It is prepared by the reaction of anthracene, dimethylformamide (DMF) and phosphorus oxychloride, and is used in the synthesis of pesticides, medicines, and dyes.

Uses

1. Dye and pigment industry: used to synthesize anthraquinone dyes (such as vat dyes and acid dyes), giving textiles, leather and other products lasting colors and light resistance.
2. Organic synthesis intermediates: can be used to synthesize derivatives such as anthraquinone and anthracene carboxylic acid, or to construct complex aromatic ring compounds (such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and fluorescent dye intermediates) through condensation reactions.
3. Material science: 9-Anthraldehyde is used as a raw material to prepare anthracene-based luminescent materials for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), fluorescent probes or photovoltaic materials. The introduction of anthracene aldehyde structure improves the optical or thermal stability of polymers and is used in special plastics or coatings.
4. Medicine and biochemistry: Some anthracene compounds have anti-tumor activity, and 9-Anthraldehyde can be used as an intermediate for the synthesis of anthraquinone anticancer drugs. Its fluorescence properties can also be used to develop biomolecular detection reagents (such as cell imaging probes).
5. Research and analysis: used as a standard or reagent for organic reaction mechanism research and qualitative and quantitative detection of chromatographic analysis.
