In the industrial (3-Chloro-2-hydroxypropyl)trimethylammonium chloride serves as a cationic etherifying agent for chemical modification of starch and chitosan to produce cationic starch used in papermaking enhancers and textile sizing agents. It also acts as a raw material for petroleum demulsifiers in oilfield chemicals and improves dye dispersibility and fabric adhesion as a dyeing and printing auxiliary.
For daily chemicals the compound is used in producing dispersants, diffusers, and curing agents to enhance the performance of detergents and cosmetics.
