3-Chloro-5-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine can be prepared by the following two methods:
Using pyridine as a raw material, a chlorination reaction is carried out in the presence of hydrochloric acid, and then a trifluoromethylation reaction is carried out in the presence of sodium trifluoroformate.
Using 3-pyridinecarboxylic acid as a raw material, a chlorination reaction is carried out in the presence of thionyl chloride, and then a trifluoromethylation reaction is carried out in the presence of trifluoromethylthiol.
