Uses:
Pharmaceutical intermediates:
Naproxen synthesis: 2,6-Dimethoxynaphthalene is oxidized to 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid, which is then esterified with methanol to obtain naproxen methyl ester, and finally hydrolyzed to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug naproxen.
Other drugs: intermediates used in the synthesis of anticoagulants and anti-tumor drugs (such as topoisomerase inhibitors).
Material science:
Liquid crystal materials: their rigid structure and the polarity of methoxy groups make them suitable for the alignment layer materials of liquid crystal displays (LCDs).
Organic semiconductors: can be used as active layer materials of organic field effect transistors (OFETs) to improve device performance.
