As a pharmaceutical intermediate, 3,4-Dihydroxy-5-nitrobenzaldehyde is used to synthesize drug molecules containing aromatic aldehyde structures such as the anti-Parkinson's drug Entacapone; at the same time, it can also be used as a scientific research reagent, mainly used for the analysis and detection of other compounds, and is often used to determine aldehyde compounds in the air.
Method of Preparation:
3,4-Dihydroxy-5-nitrobenzaldehdye can be prepared by the oxidation of p-nitrophenol with catechol. p-Nitrophenol and catechol are first dissolved under acidic conditions, followed by the addition of an aluminium chloride catalyst for the oxidation reaction. After the reaction, a pure product of DNPH is obtained through crystallization and purification steps.
