Its solubility is shown as being easily soluble in polar organic solvents (such as acetonitrile and dichloromethane), but insoluble in water.

As ionic liquids, their low vapor pressure and high stability make them ideal media for catalytic reactions (such as Suzuki-Miyaura coupling), and they can load metal nanoparticles to achieve catalyst recycling. In materials science, ion gels can be prepared after cross-linking with polymers for use in flexible electronic devices, with a storage modulus of 10⁴–10⁵ Pa and a conductivity of 10⁻⁴–10⁻³ S/cm. In addition, they can be used as electrolytes in lithium-ion batteries and supercapacitors to improve ionic conductivity.
