Its molecular formula is C₁₆H₁₉N₃, and its molecular weight is 253.34. 4-(Diethylamino)azobenzene is a dark orange to reddish yellow powder with high tinting strength and transparency. It is stable at room temperature, but may fade after long-term exposure to light, heat or strong oxidants. It is easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, acetone, and toluene, and slightly soluble in water. Its melting point is 94-96°C, boiling point is about 386.5°C, density is 1.09g/cm³, and refractive index is 1.647.
4-(Diethylamino)azobenzene is an important solvent dye. It is mainly used for the original pulp coloring of polyester fibers. It is directly added to the polyester melt to give the fiber a bright yellow color with high color fastness and strong washing resistance. In addition, it is also widely used in the coloring of plastics (such as polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene), rubber, ink, coating, oil and fuel, especially in high temperature processing, it shows good thermal stability (up to 200°C) and light resistance (5-6 levels).
