Method of Preparation
2,6-Dibromo-4-nitrophenol can be obtained by nitrating 2,6-dibromophenol with nitric and sulfuric acids. First, 2,6-dibromophenol is dissolved in dilute sulfuric acid, then concentrated nitric acid is added slowly and dropwise, maintaining the temperature at less than 10 degrees Celsius. When the reaction is complete, the product is neutralized and washed with water to give 2,6-dibromo-4-nitrophenol.
