6-Bromo-3,4-dihydro-1(2H)-naphthalenone is a chemical compound with the formula C8H6BrO. It is made by opening a ring in epichlorohydrin with boron trifluoride etherate (BF3OEt2) in pyridine at 0°C. Then, the resulting epoxide is made into tetralin by adding sodium hydroxide. The synthesis can be done in a lab using pure chemicals and makes up to 100% of the starting material into tetralin. 6-Bromo-tetral-1-one does not burn or make toxic byproducts when heated.
