Tripropylsilane is a colorless liquid with an odor similar to that of organic solvents. It is a colorless liquid that is relatively stable at room temperature but may decompose at elevated temperatures. It has a low density and is soluble in many organic solvents, but is insoluble in water. It has a low surface tension and can be used as a wetting agent.
Tri-n-propylsilane can be prepared by hydrosilylation, where n-propyl chloride and silicon chloride are reacted to produce tri-n-propylsilane and hydrogen chloride.
