Zerumbone (CAS No.: 471-05-6) is a monocyclic sesquiterpene isolated from the rhizome of Zingiber zerumbet Smith. Its molecular formula is C15H22O and molecular weight is 218.34 g/mol.
Zerumbone has a melting point of 67–69°C, boiling point of 321.6°C (760 mmHg), density of 0.9 ± 0.1 g/cm³, refractive index of 1.468, flash point of 133.9°C, and vapor pressure of 0.000295 mmHg (25°C). It is sparingly soluble in water and readily soluble in organic solvents such as chloroform and dichloromethane.

Uses:

Zerumbone exhibits multiple pharmacological activities, including:
Anti-cancer and anti-proliferative effects: Inhibits tumor cell growth and induces apoptosis.
Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties: Reduces inflammatory mediator release and scavenges free radicals.
Antiviral activity: Effectively suppresses Epstein-Barr virus activation (IC₅₀ = 0.14 mM).
Currently, it is primarily used as a research reagent in medical studies, such as anticancer drug development and viral infection mechanism research.
