Properties
DSPG-Na is a surfactant with good emulsifying and dispersing properties. It can form a colloidal system between water and oil, and is commonly used in the preparation of liquid emulsions, nanoparticles, microcapsules, and so on.
Applications
It is also useful in the preparation of biomedical imaging materials, gene delivery vectors, etc.
One of the differences between DSPG-Na and other synthetic phospholipids is that distearoyl phosphatidylglycerol does not need to be stored in a sub-zero environment, and can be stored in a light-shielded, airtight container at 2-8°C. DSPG is the most potent phosphatidylglycerol for enhancing respiratory mucociliary clearance in cystic fibrosis patients.

Method of Preparation
The method of preparation of 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycerol-3-phosphatidylglycerol (sodium salt) involves first reacting 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycerol-3-phosphate (DPPG) with glycerol and then reacting it with sodium hydroxide to obtain the sodium salt of the product.
