EIDD-2801 (Molnupiravir) is slightly soluble in water and easily soluble in organic solvents such as dimethyl sulfoxide. After oral administration, it is rapidly hydrolyzed to the active metabolite N4-hydroxycytidine (NHC), which is further phosphorylated to NHC-5'-triphosphate.

EIDD-2801 (Molnupiravir) is an orally bioavailable prodrug of β-D-N4-hydroxycytidine and was shown to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 replication in human airway epithelial cells.
