Its molecular formula is (C4H6O3)n, with molecular weight varying according to polymerization degree. The repeating units in its structure endow it with excellent biocompatibility and degradability.

 

1,3-Dioxan-2-one typically appears as white or light yellow granules. It exhibits a low glass transition temperature (approximately -20°C), imparting silicone rubber-like elasticity at body temperature. The material has a melting point of approximately 42.2°C and a density of 1.2 g/cm³.

In biomedical fields, 1,3-Dioxan-2-one is widely used in degradable surgical sutures, drug-controlled release systems, implantable devices such as heart stents, and tissue engineering scaffolds. Its elasticity and biocompatibility ensure stability in dynamic physiological conditions.

Method of Preparation:

1,3-Dioxan-2-one. The preparation of Polylactic acid is generally carried out in a two-step reaction. Compounds with hydroxyl groups (such as sucrose or corn starch) are converted into lactic acid monomers through an acid catalyst. Then, the lactic acid monomers are polymerized into polylactic acid (PLA) through a polycondensation reaction.
