What is Aluminum tri-sec-butoxide?

Aluminum Sec-Butoxide (Al[OC₄H₉]₂) is an organoaluminum compound in which the aluminum atom is bonded to two sec-butoxide groups. A sec-butyl group is a type of butyl group where the carbon atom in the chain is attached to two methyl groups and one ethyl group (–CH₂CH₃). This structure makes sec-butoxide more reactive compared to other butyl variants like tertiary butoxide because it is less sterically hindered.

It is highly reactive, particularly with moisture, and requires careful handling. When exposed to water, it reacts to form aluminum hydroxide and sec-butanol. It is typically used in processes where moisture is controlled to avoid unwanted side reactions

What is the use of Aluminum tri-sec-butoxide(CAS:2269-22-9)?

1. As a curing agent in coatings, adhesives and plastic additives.
2. Used as a catalyst to participate in organic synthesis reactions.
3. Used in the preparation of metal-organic compounds and metal catalysts.
4. As a catalyst in the preparation of rubber and polymers.
