PCE (Tetrachloroethylene), also known as perchloroethylene, is a type of ethylene chloride compound with the chemical formula Cl₂C=CCl₂ and a molecular weight of 165.8. It has a density of 1.62 g/cm³ and appears as a colorless, transparent, and easily flowing liquid at room temperature. It is nonflammable and has a distinctive odor. Tetrachloroethylene is slightly soluble in water, with a solubility of 0.015 g per 100 mL at 20°C, but it is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether.
The compound is incompatible with strong oxidizing agents and chemically active metals (such as barium, lithium, and beryllium). Although tetrachloroethylene is relatively stable, it reacts vigorously with concentrated nitric acid, producing carbon dioxide as a result.

Production Methods:
Tetrachloroethylene can be produced through several methods, including the ethylene process, hydrocarbon oxidation, and the acetylene process.
Perchloroethylene Uses:
The primary use of perchloroethylene solvent is as a chemical intermediate, while smaller quantities are used for metal cleaning, aerosol degreasing, dry cleaning, and textile processing. It is also added to aerosols, solvent soaps, inks, adhesives, sealants, polishes, lubricating oils, and silicone products.
