1,2-Dichloroethane (DCE), chemical formula C2H4Cl2, is an organic compound, molecular weight 98.97, is a halogenated hydrocarbon. 1,2-DCA is colorless or light yellow transparent liquid, insoluble in water, it is colorless at room temperature with chloroform-like odor liquid, toxic, with potential carcinogenicity, mainly used as an intermediate in the production process of vinyl chloride (polyvinyl chloride monomer), synthesis is often used as a solvent, can be added to leaded gasoline to improve octane number.
Around 95% of dce chemistry solvent is used inthe production of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), nearly all of which goes intopolyvinyl chloride (PVC).
