This type has a milder acidic nature. It's safe for everyday uses like cooking, where it adds a tangy flavor to dishes, and pickling, helping preserve foods while giving them a distinct taste. In cleaning, its mild acidity allows it to remove stains and dirt effectively without causing damage to most surfaces. Since the concentration is low, it poses less risk to human skin and eyes, though it can still cause mild irritation if in contact for a long time.
Glacial Acetic Acid
Glacial acetic acid is the purest form, with a minimum purity of 99.5%. It gets its name from its tendency to freeze into a solid that resembles ice when the temperature drops below 16.6°C (61.9°F). It has a sharp, intense odor and strong acidic properties. In industry, it's used in pharmaceutical synthesis, textile dyeing to improve colorfastness, and in laboratory research for precise chemical reactions. However, due to its high concentration, it's highly corrosive. It can cause severe burns to skin and eyes upon contact and is not suitable for direct use in food or household applications without proper dilution and processing. Special safety gear, such as gloves, goggles, and protective clothing, is required when handling glacial acetic acid.
