- Within the chemical industry, it also acts as a solvent for organic dyes and printing inks, and as a dewaxing agent.
- In the food flavoring industry, n-butanol is also used to formulate flavorings for banana, cream, whiskey, and cheese.
There are three primary methods for producing N-Butanol:
Fermentation, acetaldehyde synthesis, and propylene carbonylation synthesis. However, with the advancement of petrochemical technology, the fermentation method has been phased out. The acetaldehyde synthesis method uses acetaldehyde as the raw material, producing n-butanol through a series of chemical reactions. The propylene carbonylation synthesis method employs propylene, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen as feedstocks, reacting under specific catalysts and conditions to yield n-butanol.
