The main applications of zirconium acetylacetonate include the following aspects:
Heat stabilizer: Zirconium acetylacetonate is used as a heat stabilizer in the formulation of halogenated polymers, especially polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which can improve the thermal stability of PVC and prevent its decomposition during processing.
Catalyst: Zirconium acetylacetonate can be used as a catalyst to participate in various chemical reactions and promote the progress of chemical reactions.
Resin crosslinker and hardening accelerator: In resin processing, zirconium acetylacetonate can be used as a crosslinker and hardening accelerator to enhance the physical properties and chemical stability of the resin.
Starting material for zirconium metal isomers: Zirconium acetylacetonate can also be used as a starting material for zirconium metal isomers, providing a basis for the synthesis of other zirconium compounds.
Chemical properties and storage conditions
Zirconium acetylacetonate is a white crystal with a melting point of 191-195°C and a relative density of 1.42g/cm³. It is slightly soluble in water, ethanol, ether and petroleum ether, but soluble in pyridine, acetone, benzene and chlorinated hydrocarbons. Zirconium acetylacetonate is stable at room temperature and pressure, but should be protected from light, open flame and high temperature. It should be stored in a sealed and light-proof place at room temperature, ventilated and dry.
Safety Information
Zirconium acetylacetonate is toxic to a certain extent, and the exposure limit is ACGIH: TWA 5 mg/m³; STEL 10 mg/m³. Appropriate protective measures should be taken during handling to avoid inhalation and skin contact.
