The use of ionic liquids as solvents and supporting electrolytes in the process of electrodeposition of metals has gathered much attention due to their environment-friendly nature.

- Ionic liquids are odorless and non-flammable, and their vapor pressure is extremely low, so they can be used in high vacuum systems and can reduce environmental pollution caused by volatilization.
- Ionic liquids have good dissolving properties for organic and inorganic substances, enabling the reaction to proceed under homogeneous conditions and reducing the volume of equipment at the same time.
- Wide operating temperature range (-40~300℃), good thermal and chemical stability, easy to separate from other substances, and can be recycled.
- It shows the acidity of Lewis and Franklin acid, and the acid strength is adjustable.
The above advantages are good solvents for many organic chemical reactions, such as polymerization, alkylation, acylation, and ionic solutions.
