Edoxaban is not the same as Clopidogrel. Here are the main differences between the two:
1, drug class and mechanism of action
Edoxaban:
Class: new oral direct thrombin inhibitor.
Mechanism of action: prevent the coagulation process by inhibiting the activity of thrombin, thus achieving anticoagulant effect.
Primary Use: For the prevention of stroke risk and venous thromboembolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation, as well as for the treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).
Clopidogrel:
Class: platelet aggregation inhibitor.
Mechanism of action: By blocking ADP (adenosine diphosphate) receptors, it reduces platelet activation and aggregation, thus preventing thrombosis.
Main uses: For the prevention of heart disease, stroke and other thrombotic disorders, especially atherosclerotic thrombotic events such as ischaemic stroke and myocardial infarction.
2. Precautions for use
Edoxaban:
Bleeding Risk: As an anticoagulant, the primary risk of Edoxaban is bleeding, including life-threatening bleeding. Close monitoring of patients for bleeding is required during use.
CONTRAINDICATIONS AND DRUG INTERACTIONS: Specific contraindications and interactions with other drugs exist and require detailed reading of the instructions and use under medical supervision.
Clopidogre:
Bleeding Risk: Although Clopidogrel acts primarily on platelets, overdosage may also cause prolonged bleeding.
Medication for Special Populations:Clopidogrel is contraindicated in pregnant and breastfeeding women, those who are allergic to the product, those who suffer from ulcer disease and intracranial haemorrhage. Patients requiring elective surgery should discontinue use for a certain period of time prior to surgery to avoid an increased risk of bleeding.
3. Additional Information
Edoxaban:
APPROVAL: On 8 January 2015, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Daiichi Sankyo Co.'s anticoagulant drug Savaysa (edoxaban).
CLINICAL TRIALS: Its efficacy and safety in preventing stroke and venous thromboembolism in patients with atrial fibrillation were verified in large-scale clinical trials.
Clopidogrel:
WIDELY USED: Due to its favourable efficacy and safety profile, Clopidogrel is widely used in clinical practice.
Dosage Adjustment: Dosage varies with individual differences and needs to be taken for a long period of time under the supervision of a doctor and regular monitoring of the risk of bleeding.
In summary, Edoxaban and Clopidogrel have significant differences in terms of drug class, mechanism of action, main uses and precautions for use. Therefore, the selection and use of these two drugs should be based on the patient's specific condition and doctor's guidance.
