What are the Chemical Properties of DMF Liquid?
Dimethylformamide (DMF) is a colorless, transparent liquid characterized by a high boiling point, high flash point, and strong solvency. As a highly polar solvent, its polarity is even greater than that of water, enabling it to dissolve a wide range of organic compounds - including some types of rubber.
Does DMF Liquid Dissolve Rubber?
DMF Liquid can dissolve certain kinds of rubber, such as butyl rubber and ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR/EPDM), but it is not suitable for dissolving all rubber types. In addition, DMF has a swelling and softening effect on rubber materials, which can alter their physical properties such as tensile strength and tear resistance. Furthermore, DMF can enhance the interaction between rubber and other substances, such as plasticizers, vulcanizing agents, and swelling agents.
